About this blog

I was born and bred in Cumbria and I have been exploring the Lake District fells and mountains for most of my life. However, I have not managed to visit all of the classic summits as listed by Alfred Wainwright. I used to do a lot of fell running and have managed to get round some of the long distance fell races such as Wasdale and Ennerdale and Duddon. This has taken me to some places I would never have set out to explore if it had not been to check out the race routes beforehand. However...I still have not been up a lot of the Lake District fells.

I having been talking about completing the Wainwrights for the last few years but it felt like I couldn't have an end point without having a start point. The start point in reality would be 24 years ago when I was 16 and started to head out in the hills!
.....so I turned 40 in November this year and I have decided that now is a good a time as any to complete all of the Wainwrights in my 40th year. Although I have been up many of the fells a few times I am going to start from scratch and do them all again, hoping to complete them in the year.
The Turtle
I also decided that my new travelling companion the turtle should come with me on this venture. I am hoping my labrador Roxy can come out on most days with me too, but she has been suffering from an underactive thyroid and so has not been out on the fells with me for the last 9 months. But she is now on tablets and she is almost back to her old energy levels.

So I am planning on starting in the North and North West first on my local fells, whilst it is winter. Here is to a fun year on the fells.
